The history of the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow
One of such historical treasures of Moscow is the Kosmos Hotel. Its location was also not chosen by chance. The windows of the building overlooked the VDNKh Park and the Cosmonauts monument.
This hotel complex was designed by the joint efforts of Soviet and French architects commissioned by the authorities specifically to serve the largest sporting event of the 1980s - the Summer Olympic Games. The French project served as the basis. It assumed a large number of rooms of various sizes, a unique concert venue, and a large capacity of catering facilities.
The construction was carried out in the shortest possible time, but at the same time, control over the quality and conditions for meeting certain requirements did not stop for a moment. Everything was selected and arranged according to the specified plans and subtleties. The standards applied to construction were much more stringent than in Europe. Attention was paid to every detail. The wall and ceiling cladding materials, tiles, paint, and auxiliary materials were all carefully selected.
The grand opening of the hotel took place in 1979. This event was held on a grand scale - in addition to the main program, the most beloved French performer of that time, Joe Dassin, was invited.
The square in front of the hotel is named after the French figure Charles de Gaulle. In 2005, as part of Russia's cooperation with European countries, a monument to Charles de Gaulle was erected, created by the famous master Zurab Tsereteli. The monument was opened by two presidents of Russia and France.
For such a long history of its existence, this hotel has been visited by hundreds of domestic and international stars of theater, cinema and pop.
Naturally, such a complex was not used only as a tourist accommodation. In 1995, the Chess Olympiad was held here. In 1996, the press center of the Goodwill Games was established. Various exhibitions, song and dance festivals, forums and conferences were held, and the programs “Song of the Year” and “Morning Star” were filmed on the territory of Kosmos.
Of the interesting facts, we can mention the filming of the movie “Night Watch". According to the story, this is where the headquarters of the dark forces was located.
